1) "We Are The World of Feral Cats". Feral cat area free roaming, unowned and unsocialized domestic cats. Feral cats may live alone but are usually found in large groups called feral colonies.
2) "Black dog Syndrome". Black dogs, particularly black labs, or lab mixes who are euthanized at a horrifying rate at many pounds and shelters. People pass them up for lighter colored dogs.
Basset Hound Rescue Network has an urgent need for a 15,000-Watt generator.
The shelter suffered a major snow storm blizzard from Arctic Weather on 12/17/08.
A generator can make a big difference to this rescue, out in the boonies, where help cannot reach them!

Basset Hound Rescue Network The shelter is in the high desert in Acton, a remote area in Southern CA. They were snow in on 12/17/08 with blizzard. One cannot see his hands in front of his face.
On December 17, 2008, a major snow storm brought in by the unusual extreme Arctic Weather. Their region was hit with snow blizzard, and with an extreme wind at 50 mph , and gusts at 75 mph. IT WAS FREEZING! POWER WAS OUT. FROZEN WATER PIPES & PUMPS BURST. Two well water pumps burst, due to no power. Water tank also burst a subterranean pipe – which drained the tank overnight. Pipes burst, because the water was sitting in the freezing temperature areas for long to form significant ice crystals. We had no power, no heat in the kennels, no running water. Help cannot reach us. Water truck could not come in. Roads closed.
As of December 23, 2008 @ 11am, the shelter still has no RUNNING water. Power has been restored. The parts for the damaged water pumps are in order for the tune of $450. They have a small generator on loan from a dealer in Saugus at $20/hour when we use it, and $5/day as “standby”. They have 50 portable gallons of water in one gallon water jug/each to supply water to animals for drinking.
